US LNG Exports Surge: 10 Million Tonnes in a Single Month! (2025)

The United States has achieved a groundbreaking milestone, becoming the first nation to export a staggering 10 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in a single month. This remarkable feat was made possible by the country's two largest LNG exporters, Venture Global and Cheniere, who led the surge in sales with their respective facilities in Louisiana and Texas. In October, these companies exported a combined 4.2 million tonnes, accounting for 42% of the total U.S. LNG exports. This achievement is even more impressive considering the U.S. already holds the title of the world's largest LNG exporter, with sales ramping up to record-breaking levels in 2025. But here's where it gets interesting: Europe, the primary customer, received 6.9 million tonnes, while Asia and Latin America received 1.96 million tonnes and 0.57 million tonnes, respectively. This distribution highlights the strategic importance of these markets for the U.S. LNG industry. The surge in exports is attributed to the startup of Venture Global's Plaquemines export plant and the expansion of Cheniere's Corpus Christi Stage 3 project. These developments have significantly increased the U.S.'s capacity to export LNG, with Cheniere's Corpus Christi facility alone exporting a record-breaking 1.6 million tonnes in October. The pricing dynamics are also noteworthy, with gas trading at $10.88 per million British thermal units at the European benchmark Dutch Title Transfer Facility, and $11.11 at the Japan-Korea Marker benchmark in Asia. These prices are remarkably close, making it challenging for U.S. LNG exporters to justify shifting sales from Europe to Asia. This development raises intriguing questions about market strategies and the future of the U.S. LNG industry. The U.S.'s success in exporting such vast quantities of LNG in a single month is a testament to its growing influence in the global energy market, but it also invites discussions on the sustainability and implications of this rapid expansion.
