In a heartfelt moment that tugged at the heartstrings, Sheinelle Jones bid farewell to her colleagues during her last appearance on the third hour of Today. This emotional send-off took place on a Friday, as her fellow co-hosts—Al Roker, Craig Melvin, and Dylan Dreyer—honored her contributions while she prepares to transition into her new role as the permanent co-host alongside Jenna Bush Hager on the fourth hour of Today.
"Today marks her final show with us before she officially makes the switch on January 12th," Melvin announced to the audience. "We wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate her and reminisce about some of our favorite moments together—because there have been so many wonderful times shared."
Melvin praised Jones for her authenticity both on and off camera, referring to her as his "sister in spirit." He expressed how much he cherishes the moments when she shares her personal mantras and poetry, saying, "Those instances always bring joy to my heart."
He continued with an emotional tribute, stating, "The stories you share come straight from the heart—genuine and compassionate, which is what we strive for in journalism. The challenges you’ve faced, especially with your husband Uche Ojeh’s passing from a severe form of brain cancer in May, were witnessed by the world, yet you continue to rise each day, inspiring so many. Your radiant smile has the power to outshine even the brightest lights in the studio, embodying resilience, hope, and dreams."
Jones has been a key figure at the network since 2014, stepping into the role of co-host for the third hour of the show in 2019. Last month, it was revealed that she would be partnering with Hager permanently during an extended segment on the fourth hour of Today. Hager reflected on their longstanding bond, noting, "We've shared a beautiful history together, having filled in for Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford during their time as co-hosts of the fourth hour."
