And here's the exciting part: you, the fans, get to decide the ATP Match of the Year! So, let's recap the nominees and prepare to cast your vote.

1. Miami R3: De Minaur Defeats Fonseca 5-7, 7-5, 6-3

Remember the Joao Fonseca hype? Back in March at the Miami Open presented by Itau, it was reaching fever pitch. This teenage Brazilian sensation, fresh off his Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF victory in 2024, had quickly become a fan favorite. Nowhere was this more evident than in Miami, where he stormed into the third round of an ATP Masters 1000 event, fueled by the deafening cheers of hundreds of Brazilian supporters. He was playing with house money and the crowd was going wild!

But here's where it gets controversial... Is crowd support too influential? Should players be able to feed off that energy as much as Fonseca did?

Enter Alex de Minaur, a name synonymous with relentless competitiveness on the ATP Tour. De Minaur, unfazed by the partisan crowd, dug deep and showcased his trademark fighting spirit. After dropping the first set and then losing his serve in the opening game of the deciding set, the Australian battled back to silence the crowd and halt Fonseca's momentum in a pulsating third-round encounter.

"It was a hell of a battle. I knew coming in what to expect," De Minaur said, acknowledging the electric atmosphere by signing 'Rio Open' on the camera lens after his victory. "Not only is he an incredibly talented, dangerous, explosive player, but he’s playing with so much confidence at the moment and the crowd behind him. I knew I was going to be up against it and it was going to take every single ounce of me. Just put my head down and got to work, so very happy with that win."

2. Monte-Carlo QF: Alcaraz Defeats Fils 4-6, 7-5, 6-3

A clash of generations! The quarter-finals of April's Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters were set ablaze by a high-octane showdown between two of the ATP Tour's most promising young talents: Carlos Alcaraz and Arthur Fils. This was their first-ever Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting, and it provided a tantalizing glimpse into what could become a legendary rivalry for years to come.

Both players unleashed a barrage of powerful groundstrokes from the baseline. And this is the part most people miss... While Fils displayed incredible power, Alcaraz's experience and composure under pressure proved to be the deciding factors. After losing the first set, the Spaniard faced three break points at 5-5, 0/40 in the second set, but somehow managed to hold. He then rallied from 1-3 down in the third set to secure a dramatic two-hour, 23-minute victory. Did Fils crack under the pressure?

"I think his level is high right now and he puts a lot of pressure on his opponents,” said Alcaraz, who went on to lift the title in Monte-Carlo. “Today I could feel it but in some moments he just made a few mistakes. I tried to make the most of those points and wait for my chances.”

3. Washington QF: Moutet Defeats Medvedev 1-6, 6-4, 6-4

Talk about a rollercoaster! Corentin Moutet's incredible week in Washington, D.C., culminated in a stunning quarter-final victory over former World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev. Moutet, who entered the Mubadala Citi DC Open main draw as a lucky loser, overcame scorching heat, debilitating cramps, and even a mid-match suspension due to lightning to reach the semi-finals in the U.S. capital. What are the odds?

Moutet's hopes of reaching his first ATP 500 semi-final seemed dashed after a lopsided first set. But the French lefty unleashed his crafty game to great effect, mounting a remarkable comeback and ultimately prevailing in a chaotic climax. The match was suspended due to lightning just before Medvedev was about to serve at 4-5 in the decider! Talk about dramatic timing!

Upon the players' return to the court, Medvedev surprisingly gifted Moutet three double faults in his service game. However, Moutet immediately began to cramp. Despite the physical struggles, the Frenchman somehow managed to convert a manic match point that featured incredible scrambling from both players, a lucky net cord, and a perfectly executed Moutet lob. Was this luck, skill, or a combination of both?

“I was feeling tired, but not that bad. And then, I don't know, in two minutes I just started to feel a few cramps and then started to feel my body,” Moutet said, reflecting on the final game. “I was pretty lucky with the interruption. It helped me a lot, even if I came back on the court with cramps still.”

4. Vienna F: Sinner Defeats Zverev 3-6, 6-3, 7-5

Like Moutet in Washington, Jannik Sinner also battled through crippling cramps to secure a three-set victory in the final of October's Erste Bank Open. The Italian star has become known for his dominant performances (48 of his 58 tour-level wins in 2025 came in straight sets), but Zverev pushed him to the absolute limit in a heavyweight championship clash in Vienna. Is Sinner the new king of comebacks?

Sinner first showed signs of discomfort after losing his serve in the fourth game of the opening set, which he couldn't recover. Although he appeared to shake off the issue and delivered a stylish second-set performance to force a decider, he resorted to drinking pickle juice at changeovers and adopting an ultra-aggressive approach to keep rallies short after cramps struck his left hamstring midway through the third set. What are the secret ingredients to his success?

Whatever Sinner did to combat his physical struggles, it clearly worked. After clinching the two-hour, 29-minute victory, Sinner extended his winning streak on indoor hard courts to 21 consecutive matches, a streak he extended to 31 matches by the end of the year with title runs at the Rolex Paris Masters and the Nitto ATP Finals. He also defeated Zverev at both those events and finished 2025 with a 6-4 lead in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series.

“It was such a difficult start in this final for me,” Sinner said after prevailing over Zverev in the Austrian capital. “I just tried to stick there mentally and play my best tennis when it came. The third set was a bit of a rollercoaster, but I was feeling the ball very well at times, so I tried to push and I’m very happy of course to win another title.”

5. Athens F: Djokovic Defeats Musetti 4-6, 6-3, 7-5

In the last regular-season title match of 2025, Novak Djokovic and Lorenzo Musetti engaged in a three-hour marathon at the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Hellenic Championship in Athens. A match of epic proportions!

Djokovic pushed his body to its absolute limit in trademark fashion to capture the trophy in Athens, but only after emerging victorious in a thrilling third set that featured 13 break points and five breaks of serve. Despite squandering leads of 3-1 and 5-3 in the decider, the former World No. 1 sealed the title in style by serving out to love. Is Djokovic the greatest of all time?

“An incredible battle… Three hours of a gruelling match, physically,” Djokovic said after surpassing Roger Federer for the most tour-level titles on hard courts in the Open Era (72). “It could have been anybody's match, so congrats to Lorenzo for an amazing performance. I’m just very proud of myself to get through this one.”
